Music Therapy in NYC & across New York

You’re always overwhelmed. Tapped out. Pulled in multiple directions.

“I’m not good enough” is a constant refrain in your head. Your body always feels tense and your mind is never quiet. You keep repeating the same unhelpful roles and patterns in your relationships.

Words like anxiety and childhood trauma are not unfamiliar to you. You may also identify as a highly sensitive person (HSP).

You’ve tried to solve these problems before & haven’t found the right solutions. You may have tried therapy.

The problem is that most therapy keeps you in your head & disconnected from your body and nervous system. It’s led to insight but no actual change.

You desperately want to….

...stop spinning out into anger or overwhelm most days.

...actually be able to calm your frazzled nervous system.

...make confident decisions without overthinking or overanalyzing.

You’ve always connected deeply with music.

Listening to music helps you release stress and anxiety. It connects you to joy, creativity, and playfulness - even if those moments are rare these days.

Music expresses feelings and thoughts you can’t find the words for. Whether you sing to yourself, rock out on the piano, or the perfect Spotify playlist is your jam - music lights you up.

What if healing didn’t have to feel so difficult?

Imagine if you could gently reconnect with your body, breath and nervous system (instead of always living in your head).

Imagine if you could really understand what keeps you from showing up with confidence at work and in your relationships - and know how to move through those blocks without self-criticism.

Music therapy can help you:

  • explore and express all kinds of feelings - even the ones you hate, judge or ignore

  • stand up to that internal voice that says “you’re not good enough”

  • learn new simple and effective tools you can use outside of sessions

What does a music therapy session look like?

When we explore different creative techniques, whether it’s responding to a piece of music or making sounds with an instrument, we change your relationship to your anxiety, stuckness and the situations that are tricky for you.

Session by session, you’ll begin to build your own inner resources so you can respond to your thoughts and day to day challenges with a real sense of ease and calm. While we always shape our time based on your needs and inclinations, a session can often include a mix of the following:

  • Music-assisted relaxation. We use live or recorded music to support mindfulness and encourage deep relaxation. Helping your nervous system move out of fight/flight/freeze is a really important part of therapy - you can learn how to connect with your body and your breath even when you’re feeling anxious.

  • Musical improvisation. You don’t need to have any musical skills to improvise.  Improvisation can look like humming together or choosing and playing an instrument that represents a certain feeling.

Ultimately, it’s about exploration and learning to be okay enough with messiness and the unknown in a safe and supportive way (which is probably so closely related to your anxiety).

  • Music and imagery. This process combines deep listening to intentionally chosen recorded music with creating visual imagery to explore areas of tension/stuckness and develop internal strengths and resources.

Combining these proven creative techniques with other, more “traditional” talk therapy approaches, you’ll find a way to understand and manage your overwhelming feelings and reclaim a sense of confidence and calm.
