Therapy for Anxiety in NYC & across New York

You’re always stressed. Overwhelmed. Spinning in thoughts and possible scenarios. Doubting yourself.

Being hard on yourself is second nature.

“I’m not good enough” is a constant and exhausting refrain in your head.

Your body always feels tense and taking a deep breath is hard.

Anxiety keeps showing up, yelling at you to “try harder & be better”,
and you’re sick of it.

You long to feel....

...a sense of ease in your body and mind.

...more confident about your decisions.

...truly connected to feelings like calmness and joy.

Anxiety therapy in NYC can help you feel calm, grounded & confident

Together, we’ll slow down your familiar anxiety spirals - using breath, simple mindfulness exercises, and guided music listening. I’ll help you learn how to soothe your anxiety when it shows up and how to stop it from always being in charge of your thoughts and responses.

Then we can dive deeper and get curious about the origins of your anxiety - including when it started showing up & how it might be trying to help you. And we can figure out how you can both acknowledge it and let go of what’s not working.

I’ll guide you through a creative and embodied exploration of your relationships, the stories you tell yourself and the familiar roles that hold you back from showing up in calm and confident ways.

Music therapy can help reduce your anxiety

Music therapy helps you get to the root of your anxiety and helps you access your mental, emotional, and physical body in a unique, profound way.

While some of my clients are trying anxiety therapy for the first time, my clients often come to me because traditional talk therapy has only gotten them so far.

There is value in talking about your anxiety - the patterns, the spirals, the scenarios - but anxiety is not just experienced in words and thoughts.
Anxiety also lives in your tight shoulders, your shallow breath & the repetitive loops of your overwhelmed nervous system. Just talking about your anxiety doesn’t actually change what’s happening in your body and your nervous system.

Our work together will help you move out of the spinning and repetitive thoughts that accompany anxiety and into connecting to your body in simple and safe ways. When you’re actually connected to your body and breath, you can respond to your anxiety in a different way.

Together we’ll figure out how to help you show up in ways that feel more grounded and confident.

What does a music therapy session for anxiety look like?

When we explore different creative techniques, whether it’s responding to a piece of music or making sounds with the body or an instrument, we change your relationship to your anxiety and the situations that are tricky for you.

Session by session, you’ll begin to build your own inner resources so you can respond to your thoughts and the events of your life with a sense of ease and calm. While we always shape our time based on your needs and inclinations, a session can often include a mix of the following:

  • Music-assisted relaxation. We use live or recorded music to support mindfulness and encourage deep relaxation. Helping your nervous system move out of fight/flight/freeze is a really important part of anxiety therapy - you can learn how to connect with your body and your breath even when you’re feeling anxious.

  • Musical improvisation. You don’t need to have any musical knowledge or experience to improvise.  Improvisation can look like humming together or choosing and playing an instrument that represents a certain feeling.

Ultimately, it’s about exploration and learning to be okay enough with messiness and the unknown in a safe and supportive way (which is probably so closely related to your anxiety).

  • Music and imagery. This process combines deep listening to intentionally chosen recorded music with creating visual imagery to explore areas of tension/stuckness and develop internal strengths and resources.

Combining these proven creative techniques with other, more “traditional” talk therapy approaches, you’ll find a way to understand and manage your anxiety and establish a new sense of flow and joy.

Anxiety Therapy NYC & NY FAQs

  • Living in New York City can intensify your anxiety in ways that are easy to normalize. Constant stimulation, pressure, comparison, overwork, and the feeling that you always need to keep up can leave your nervous system stuck in survival mode.

Anxiety therapy can help you better understand the roots of your anxiety while also helping your body learn how to feel safer, calmer, and more grounded. In our work together, we may explore patterns like overthinking, perfectionism, people pleasing, burnout, panic, chronic stress, or difficulty slowing down.

As an anxiety therapist in NYC, I offer a warm, relational, and embodied approach that goes beyond just managing symptoms. Therapy can help you reconnect with yourself, regulate your nervous system, and feel more present in your life and relationships.

  • Anxiety therapy can help with many different experiences, including generalized anxiety, high-functioning anxiety, perfectionism, panic attacks, social anxiety, relationship anxiety, and chronic overwhelm.

Many of the people I work with are deeply self-aware but still feel stuck in cycles of worry, tension, over-responsibility, or self-criticism. You may look capable on the outside while internally feeling exhausted, constantly “on,” or unable to relax.

Therapy can also support physical symptoms of anxiety like insomnia, muscle tension, racing thoughts, digestive issues, shallow breathing, and feeling emotionally or physically depleted.

Together, we work toward helping you feel more regulated, connected, and able to move through life with greater ease and self-trust.

  • My approach to anxiety therapy is warm, collaborative, creative, and grounded in nervous system awareness. Rather than only analyzing thoughts, we pay attention to how anxiety is living in both your mind and body.

Sessions often include a blend of talk therapy, mindfulness, body awareness, creative exploration, and nervous system regulation tools. As a licensed creative arts therapist and music therapist, I may also incorporate music, imagery, breathing, or other experiential approaches when it feels supportive and aligned with your needs.

Many clients tell me they appreciate having a space where they don’t have to perform, push through, or have everything figured out. Therapy with me is not about “fixing” you - it’s about helping you feel safer, more connected to yourself, and less alone.

  • Insight is important, but insight alone does not always create change.

Many people come to anxiety therapy already knowing why they feel anxious. They may understand their family dynamics, attachment patterns, perfectionism, or trauma history on an intellectual level - but still feel stuck in the same emotional and physical cycles.

This often happens because anxiety doesn’t only live in thoughts. It also lives in the nervous system and the body. Healing usually requires more than awareness alone.

It involves creating new emotional experiences, building safety within yourself, and learning how to relate differently to stress, fear, and overwhelm.

My approach integrates insight with embodied and experiential work so that therapy is not only something you understand cognitively, but something you can actually feel and live more fully.

  • Yes. Anxiety is not just a mental experience - it can also show up physically in repetitive and exhausting ways.

Many people experience anxiety symptoms such as chest tightness, shallow breathing, muscle tension, jaw clenching, racing heart, insomnia, digestive issues, fatigue, or a constant feeling of being “on edge.” Sometimes people don’t even realize how much anxiety they’re carrying in their body until they begin slowing down in therapy.

In our work together, we pay attention to both the emotional and physical aspects of anxiety. Using an embodied and nervous-system-informed approach, therapy with me can help you better understand your stress responses and develop more capacity for calm, grounding, and regulation.

  • My approach to anxiety therapy combines traditional psychotherapy with creative arts therapy, music therapy, mindfulness, and embodied nervous system work.

Many anxious people spend a lot of time in their heads - analyzing, anticipating, overthinking, or trying to intellectually solve their emotions. While insight can be helpful, lasting healing often requires more than talking about your anxiety.

I work in a way that is relational, experiential, and deeply compassionate. Depending on your needs, sessions may include mindfulness practices, body awareness, creative exploration, guided music experiences, or nervous system regulation tools alongside talk therapy.

I also believe therapy should feel human and authentic. You do not need to arrive perfectly articulate or “good at therapy.” My goal is to create a space where you can soften out of survival mode and reconnect with yourself in a more authentic and grounded way.

  • Not at all. You do not need any musical background, talent, or experience to benefit from music therapy.

Music therapy is not about performing or being “good” at music. It is a therapeutic process that uses music intentionally to support emotional expression, nervous system regulation, self-awareness, and healing.

Some sessions may include listening to music, guided imagery, improvisation, or using music for grounding and relaxation. Other sessions may not involve music at all. Everything is collaborative and tailored to your comfort level and needs.

Many people are surprised by how accessible and supportive music therapy can feel, especially for anxiety, stress, and emotional overwhelm.

  • Absolutely. Many people with high-functioning anxiety appear capable, successful, responsible, or “together” on the outside while internally feeling overwhelmed, tense, exhausted, or deeply self-critical.

You may be someone who constantly pushes yourself, struggles to rest, overthinks interactions, or feels responsible for everyone else’s needs. Often, high-functioning anxiety can go unnoticed because externally things may look fine - even while your nervous system is under significant strain.

Therapy can help you better understand the patterns underneath high-functioning anxiety while creating more space for self-compassion, boundaries, emotional regulation, and a greater sense of ease (and joy!) in your daily life.

  • Yes. I offer online anxiety therapy for adults located anywhere in New York State, as well as in-person anxiety therapy sessions in NYC.

Online therapy can be a supportive and effective option for people with busy schedules, demanding work lives, caregiving responsibilities, or those who live far from my NYC office. Many clients appreciate being able to access therapy from the comfort and privacy of their own space.

Whether we meet virtually across New York or in person in NYC, my approach remains warm, collaborative, and grounded in helping you feel more supported, connected, and regulated.
